Hello!

My name is Amy and I have been in the film and TV industry for just over 6 years.

I wrote this book off the back of something a makeup designer said to me one day. It was around 2020 and I’d just stepped up to being a junior makeup artist, from a trainee. The designer said she wished she could save time, download all of my knowledge and hand it to the trainee who was brand new to the industry.

This got me thinking that, when you’re at makeup school, you learn to do hair and makeup (which is obviously very handy), but a lot of the time you’re not actually taught how to be a trainee; the role, what is expected of you, how to find jobs, makeup bus and set etiquette, who people are etc. People are also typically too busy to teach you these things at the start of the job and so you have to learn as you go, often full of anxiety.

Hence, after 4 years in the making, this book was finally born! So, here is some handy information collated into a book, to help take you from hair and makeup training to a fully-fledged trainee (and beyond).
